DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized connectivity between Bangladesh and Bhutan with a view to boosting up trade relations.
The premier, also ruling Awami League president, came up with the observation when Bhutan ambassador to Dhaka Pema Choden paid a courtesy call at her office on Wednesday.
After the meeting, PM’s press secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury briefed to the media in this regards.
According to the press secretary, Hasina said both the neighboring countries are ready to establish connectivity to further increase bilateral trade and business. But a transit is essential through India to establish this connectivity.
He said they also discussed about the upcoming visit of Bhutan’s prime minister who is scheduled to come to Bangladesh in the first week of December
The ambassador also conveyed the greetings from the Bhutanese King and the premier to Hasina.
The Bhutanese envoy highly appreciated the premier for her incumbent government’s development in country’s socio-economic sector.
Hasina also remembered the cooperation of Bhutan during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
However, Bhutan first gave acknowledgment to Bangladesh as an independent country.
