RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) commissioner Shamsuddin said they want to be reconfirmed about all information, acquired from detainees, over the killing of Rajshahi University professor AKM Shafiul Islam.
Shamsuddin was addressing a press conference at RMP Headquarters Monday.
He said that police found involvement of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student’s wing Islami Chhatra Shibir with little known militant group named 'Ansar al Islam Bangladesh-2', which claimed responsibility for Shafiul’s killing.
Securitization of data is underway as motives of the killing have not been clear yet, the RMP chief added.
Some 11 people are behind bar now for their alleged in involvement in the killing.
Shamsuddin said, evidences show that six of the detainees are involved in politics of either Juba Dal, the student’s wing of BNP, or Islami Chhatra Shibir.
All detainees will be interrogated face to face again, he added.
The RMP chief said police are hunting for the Jamaat-leader who masterminded to open the Facebook page of the militant group to create panic.
RMP additional police commissioner Sardar Tamij Uddin, and deputy commissioners Tanvir Haidar Chudhury, AKM Nahidul Islam, Shah Mohammad Golam Mahamud, among other, were presented at the conference.
On November 15, miscreants chopped Professor Shafiul of Sociology Department at the university to death in front of his residence in Chaddapai area.
Shafiul was on way to home by a motorcycle. Miscreants intercepted his vehicle, indiscriminately stabbed on his neck and back with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him inured critically.
Fatally injured Shafiul was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries.
