DHAKA: A Dhaka court ordered to exhume the body of Dr Samarukh Mehjabeen Sumi, daughter-in-law of former MP Tipu Sultan for fresh autopsy.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha passed the order on Tuesday, in response of the plea of plaintiff Samarukh’s father Engineer Nurul Islam.
The body of the victim was buried in Jessore Karbala Government graveyard.
The court also ordered to Jessore deputy commissioner (DC) to appoint an executive magistrate to exhume the body and form a three member committee, including civil surgeon for the fresh autopsy.
Earlier on Sunday, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) authorities handed over the forensic report of Samarukh to constable Humayan of Dhanmondi Thana saying that she committed suicide.
However, Samarukh’s father denied the report claiming it had been fabricated as feared earlier.
On November 13, police recovered Sumi’s body from Dhanmondi residence of the city.
The victim’s father filed a murder case with Dhanmondi Thana against Humayun, his father and mother, also a physician Jasmin Akhtar, following the death.
Nurul alleged that his daughter was beaten to death. However, Tipu Sultan’s family claimed that she had committed suicide.
Mehjabeen completed MBBS degree from Holy Family Medical College, where her mother-in-law is a doctor.
