Dr Shamarukh’s re-autopsy ends

JESSORE: The re-autopsy of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin, daughter-in-law of former Awami League lawmaker Tipu Sultan, ended on Thursday afternoon.

Acting supervisor of 250-Bed Hospital of Jessore Dr Yakub Ali Mollah told banglanews that the doctors completed the post-mortem at the hospital around 3:00pm.

He said Head of the Forensic Department of the Jessore Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) Professor Nazmul Huda and lecturers Dr Hossain Safayat and Dr Jesmin Sumaiya and 250-Bed Hospital’s Dr Musfiqur Rahman conducted the autopsy.

District Civil Surgeon Dr Atiqur Rahman Khan supervised the autopsy in presence of Dr Yakub Ali Mollah, district executive magistrate Abdus Salam and other high ups of the administration.

Earlier, the IO (investigation officer) of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Dhanmondi Zone CID Munshi Ruhul Quddus handed over the first autopsy report to the authorities of 250-Bed Hospital of Jessore.

The doctors entered the morgue at 12:45pm and conducted the autopsy at 3:00pm. Later, the body was handed over to the relatives.

Dr Hossain Safayat told banglanews that they have collected flesh and DNA from the wounded spot of throat and other body parts that would be examined at Pathology and X-Ray divisions.

He also said it might take one week to one month to know certainly whether it was a suicide or a murder.

The body parts of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin will be examined at three different organisations. The other two are Salimullah Medical College and Hospital of Dhaka and the Forensic Department of Khulna Medical College and Hospital.

Later, the body of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin was re-buried around 4:00pm at Karbala Graveyard of the district sadar.

Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin’s father Engineer Nurul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier, the body of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin had been dug out from the grave at 11:15am on Thursday for a re-autopsy.

The body was exhumed from Karbala graveyard of the town and sent to Jessore 250-bed Hospital morgue after 21-day of her burial.

Executive Magistrate Abdus Salam, Lecturers of Forensic Department of Jessore Medical College Hospital Dr Hossain Safayat, Dr Jesmin Sumaiya, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Dhanmondi zone CID Munshi Ruhul Haque, Jessore Kotowali Thana Officer-in-Charge Inamul Haque, Dr Shamarukh’s father Engineer Nurul Islam along with others were also present there.

Earlier, following a petition filed by victim’s father, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha of Dhaka on November 25 ordered the exhumation of the body of Dr Shamarukh for re-autopsy.

The court had ordered a three-member committee to exhume the body and conduct re-autopsy.

Earlier on November 13, Mehjabin, wife of Humayun Sultan Sadab, eldest son of Khan Tipu Sultan, was found dead at her in law’s Dhanmondi residence in the capital.
