Brushfire kills a woman in Rangamati

RANGAMATI: A woman was killed in a brushfire in Chelachhra area under Kawkhali upazila on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Chungula Marma, 30.

Officer-in-charge (OC) Nilukanta Barua of Kawkhali Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Some unidentified miscreants riding on motorcycles opened fire at some pedestrians, who were going to a fair organized in United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) controlled area, leaving Chungula dead on the spot and another one, Haridhar Chakma, 45, injured.

The injured was taken to the Christian Hospital in Chandraghona (CHC).

Being informed army and police rushed to the area, the OC added.

However, Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (JSS- Santu Larma group) leader Subash Chakma blamed UPDF for the incident.

Though, refusing the allegation UPDF leader Rakel Tanchanga claimed JSS did the firing incident.
