DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday summoned Supreme Court lawyer Dr Tuhin Malik asking him to appear before the court by January 13, 2015.

He was summoned in a fresh case filed against him on Wednesday morning on the charge of making derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.

Golam Rabbani, international affairs deputy secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Central Committee, filed the case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka around 10:00pm.

Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque passed the order after recording the statement of the plaintiff around 11:00pm.

Assistant Public Prosecutor of the court Azad Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier on Tuesday, two cases were filed by the same plaintiff against Tuhin Malik on the charges of making derogatory remarks on the Bangladesh Constitution and hurting religious sentiment.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque directed officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station to register the cases as regular ones after getting the home ministry's approval, which is mandatory for filing a sedition case.

According to the case statement, Dr Tuhin gave a speech in Water Lily Garden Auditorium in East London defaming several sections of the Constitution and hurting religious sentiment.
