DHAKA: Local administration started eviction drive from Wiseghat to Shyambazar areas from Thursday morning.

A team led by executive magistrate Sarwar Alam starting evicting illegal shops and other establishment from around Sadarghat amid protest of traders at 12:00am.

Protesting the drive, president of Lalkuthighat Fruits Traders Owners Association Abdul Khalek Khan said, “We had signed a deal with Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) authority in 2001 to operate business here for 15-year.”

“We got no notice to shift our businesses from here and we have to face losses of crores of taka due to this eviction drive,” he added.

In the meantime, hundreds of traders and workers threatened the government of waging tougher movement if the eviction drive is not stopped immediately.

However, magistrate Sarwar Alam said, “We have nothing to do but evict as we got order from the High Court.”
