DHAKA: Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained two men with huge amount of seized foreign currencies worth about Tk 17 lakh at Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday night.

The detainees are Moslem Uddin, 50, a caretaker of Janata Bank Limited, airport branch, of Kanakdia village under Baufal upazila of Patuakhli district and Mohammad Ali, 32, a dollar trader, son of A. Karim of Dustina village of Ujirpur Thana of Barisal.

APBn nabbed Ali with $1,800, UEA Dirham 16,700, and Saudi Riyal 56,150 at the airport’s Concourse Hall around 9:85pm on Thursday. Being informed by Ali, APBn held Moslem as he was an associate of Ali   .

The detainees admitted that they collected dollars illegally and sold at different places of the city.

A case was filed with the airport thana in this connection.
