DHAKA: Customs intelligence officials held a person with 800g gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city Friday afternoon, hours after detaining another person with 812g gold.
Sources told banglanews that the authorities found the gold, worth about Tk 40 lakh, from Rashed, 32, passenger of a Malaysian Airlines flight.
He was detained by the customs intelligence department while crossing the airport’s green channel, sources added.
Confirming the matter, customs assistant director Umme Nahida said that the detainee, however, is being interrogated in this connection.
Earlier at noon, the authorities detained another person with 812g gold from the airport.
The detainee, identified as Abu Taher, 50, arrived from Saudi Arabia by a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight.
He was also detained by the customs officials while crossing the green channel.
