Daylong hartal in Tangail Wednesday

TANGAIL: District Anti-Social Activities Prevention Committee called a daylong hartal on Wednesday protesting the reopening of a brothel in Kandapara area of the district.

Maulana Shamsuzzaman, imam of central Jame-e-Masjid in Tangail, declared the hartal after jumma prayers on Friday.

Earlier, police resisted the devotees while they brought out a procession from the mosque after the prayer.

Later, they declared a daylong hartal in the district from the rally held in front of the mosque.

Committee secretary Maulana Abdul Jalil and Central Graveyard Mosque imam Maulana Mufti Ashrafuzzaman Kasemi, among others, were present during the declaration.

However, the sex-workers returned to the area after getting the High Court’s order.

Earlier on July 12, around 2,000 women including 800 sex-workers left their residents in the area due to the protest of Anti-Social Activities Prevention Committee.
