DHAKA: The New Year will bring a new Bangladesh where the environment, minds of people, politics will be cleaned and so do the society.
A voluntary organization named ‘We Want Change (Poriborton Chai)’ has taken up a program to make such values.
So, there was a declaration on the last day of the outgoing year from that organization with the slogan ‘Let us make the country clean.’
The program of the day also includes not only cleaning the environment; social, political and individual life shall also be made clean.
On Sunday (December 28) in a press briefing held at National Press Club, the chairman of the organization Fida Haque told about the various programs of the organization.
He informed that in the morning of December 31 all members from 11:00am 1:00pm will clean their own houses, surroundings, play grounds, roads and so on by removing the rubbish, wastes and other sweeping materials. They will put those wastes in the nearest dustbins.
He informed most important objective of this day is that to make commitment one -self henceforth none will throw wastes on the roads and also to encourage others to do the same.
Detailing the program of the day Fida Haque informed that the program of cleaning and creating awareness campaign will be carried at six places namely-- Dhaka City Corporation building, North City Corporation office, Rabindra Sorobor of Dhanmondi, Mirpur stadium No 2, Uttara Friends club and Sattola slum area of Mohakhali.
Some 5,000 volunteers will participate in that campaign in Dhaka city and the campaign will be carried in 40 districts where around 7000 volunteers will participate, informed organizers.
The campaign has been designed in such a way that it will terminate at the offices of City Corporation or ward commissioners.
As part of the campaign 50 small size dust-bins have been made and were fixed with the light post along roads of City Corporations and around Dhaka University.
Eminent personalities of our country of different professions including Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed of Biswa Shahittya Kendra, Cricketer Sakib Al Hassan, Musician Ayub Bachchu, Tahsan, actors Bipasha Hayat and Towkir Ahmed will also participate in the campaign. To make wide publicity of the campaign a short film has also been made.
The press briefing was also addressed among others by architect Mobasser Hossain, Broti CEO Sharmin Murshid, Environmentalist Quamrul Hassan Khan, director of Panjeri publications Kamrul Hassan Shayikh and executive director of ‘Want Change’ Nahid Sultana and architect Iqbal Habib.
The speakers said that if the people can develop the habit of not throwing the wastes materials hither and thither then Bangladesh will be turned into a beautiful country.
The program will be supported and aided by Bangla Track, Water Aid, Que B, Surjyamukhi and World Vision.
