DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal, adjacent to the High Court in the city, has been covered under a tight security ahead of the verdict in alleged war crimes cases against Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam.
Sources told banglanews that the security measures were strengthened in the area since the dawn.
Apart from police, RAB personnel and plain dressed detectives are also on alert there to ensure security, they added.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Thana Sirajul Islam told banglanews that they increased numbers of police check posts and kept numbers of Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) and water cannon stand-by in the area to avert any untoward situation.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will pronounce its verdict in war crimes case against Jamaat Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam for his alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
Earlier, on Monday, a three-member tribunal led by Justice Enayetur Rahim fixed Tuesday for the verdict.
Other two members of the tribunal are: Justice Zahangir Hossain and Justice Anwarul Haque.
