LAXMIPUR: One of the top terrors of the district was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Solaiman Uddin Jisan, chief of Jisan Bahini of Laxmipur. He was also former library affairs secretary of district unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Laxmipur’s superintendent of police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Comilla RAB-11 commanding officer Major Sakib Siddique told banglanews that Jisan was going to Daudkandi from Dhaka riding a motorcycle at 4:30am. On arrival in Putia area, noticing the presence of a RAB patrol team and he opened fire targeting them.
RAB retaliated with gunshots in self-defense, leaving Jishan dead on the spot and later the body was handed over to Daudkandi Thana police, added the RAB officer.
Later, the elite force also recovered firearms and bullets from the spot.
Daudkandi Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) M Absus Salam told banglanews that Jisan’s body was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Jisan was accused in around 50 cases, including murder, abduction, robbery, with several police stations of Laxmipur and Noakhali districts, said the OC.
