DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Selim Bhiyan, who was held on suspicion of Jatrabari arson attack, on 14-day remand for in three cases filed with Jatrabari Thana.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahman passed the order as Jatrabari Thana Sub-Inspector Parimal Chandra Das produced Selim before the court with a 30-day remand prayer.
However, the cases were filed following the arson attack on a passenger bus in Jatrabari-Katherpul area in the city on Friday (January 23).
Jatrabari Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) KM Nuruzzaman on Saturday filed three lawsuits against 68 leaders and activists of BNP in this connection.
Mentioning the names of 18 BNP leaders, the lawsuit said that they were involved in planning the attack while 50 other BNP men executed it, which left 29 people burnt critically.
The victims were undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Moreover, Jatrabari Thana police sued BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for instigating Friday’s arson attack.
Though the lawsuit against the BNP chief was lodged on Saturday afternoon, the matter was revealed on Sunday morning.
Plaintiff of the cases KM Nuruzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
