Training on arbitration clause held in city

DHAKA: A daylong training program on ‘Overview & Drafting of an Arbitration Clause’ was held at BIAC in city on Tuesday.

Organized by BIAC, the program was attended, among others, by former Attorney General Barrister Fida M Kamal, Barrister Imtiaz Farooq and Barrister Nilufar Mannan as trainers.

They said that government has undertaken a number of measures to expedite disposal of cases to address the problem of congestion of cases at every level of the court system and get around complex court procedures.

According to them, a number of significant amendments were enacted in recent years making Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a method of settlement of disputes alternative to court system.

But to get results of these changes in our laws, we require trained ADR professionals in the country, the trainers opined.

They said that the training will help a long way in creating a pool of ADR professionals in the country.

‘Overview & Drafting of an Arbitration Clause’ is the first module of a series of training programs on arbitration, conducted by BIAC.

Organizers said that the training provided incisive details about arbitration, and the skills necessary to draft a dispute settlement clause - a fundamental requirement in commercial contracts.

However, certificates were given to the trainees on successful completion of the course.
