DHAKA: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson termed the extent of the current violence and disruption to the lives of all people in Bangladesh “distressing and deplorable.”
The British diplomat came up with the observation in a meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her political office in city’s Gulshan area on Wednesday afternoon.
The high commissioner went there around 5:00pm and after the meeting he left the office around 6:10pm.
He also expressed his profound shock at the death of her (Khaleda) son Arafat Rahman Koko.

He also urged them to consider confidence building measures that would defuse the current tension in the country and allow normal life to resume.
The envoy went there along with British Commission’s Head of Press and Communication officer Fouzia Yunis-Soleman.
However, Fouzia came out of Khaleda’s office after some time of her entrance.
Moreover, BNP chairperson’s adviser Sabihuddin Ahmed also entered the political office before the British High Commissioner.
