2 vehicles torched in Moulvibazar

MOULVIBAZAR: Hartal supporters set alight two petrol carrying vehicles in Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday – the third day of the 72-hour hartal sponsored by Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led (BNP) 20-party alliance.

Police detained Moulvibazar municipality unit ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Yamir Ali, 45, for his alleged involvement in the arson attack.
     
Moulvibazar Model Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Abdul Khaleque confirmed the matter to banglanews.

OC A Khaleque said that two vehicles, carrying petrol, were heading toward Bibiyana gas field in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district. Or arrival in Kamalpur Bazar area of the Sadar upazila, a group of hartal supporters, numbering 15 to 20, set fire to the vehicles around 7:30am and fled the area.

On information, a fire fighter unit rushed in and doused the flame.

Police were raiding the area and preparing to lodge a case in this connection, added the OC.

Meanwhile, the alliance-enforced 72-hour hartal will continue till 6:00pm on Wednesday, coupled with a nationwide road-rail-waterway blockade for indefinite period.
