DHAKA: The government has decided to appoint Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury as the high commissioner to South Africa.

However, Chowdhury is currently serving as Bangladesh High Commissioner to Mauritius.

External Publicity Wing of foreign ministry issued a press note on Tuesday regarding the appointment.

A career diplomat, Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury belongs to the 9th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre.

In his distinguished diplomatic career, other than his current High Commissionership, Chowdhury served in Bangladesh Missions in Beijing, Brussels, London and New York in different capacities.

Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury graduated from BUET in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

Later, he obtained a diploma from International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.

He successfully completed the NDC course on 2007 from National Defense College, Dhaka.
