2 killed in Jessore ‘gunfight’

JESSORE: Two people were killed and four policemen injured in a gunfight with police in Begaritala area under Monirampur Upazila of the district early Wednesday.
   
The deceased were identified as Sayed of Dumuria Upazila of Khulna and Bazlu of Joypur village of Monirampur Upazila of Jessore.

District police spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Reshma Sharmin confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Reshma said that Sayed and Bazlu, accused in six different cases, were arrested by police on Tuesday evening.

Following the arrestees’ confession, police along with them went to Begaritala around 3:00am to recover firearms and ammunition.

Sensing lawpersons presence, miscreants, who lurked there, began firing targeting police that forced them to retaliate with gunshots.

During the time, the two people were caught in the line of fire.

Moreover, police recovered 12 petrol bombs, nine cocktails, a shooter gun and two rounds of bullet from the spot, added the ASP.
