Law enforcers on high alert

DHAKA: Law enforcers have boosted security in the capital in Wednesday hours before an International Crimes tribunal is to deliver a verdict against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdus Subhan on war crimes charges.

Ahead of the verdict, police, Rapid Action Battalion and Armed Police Batalion (APBn) are seen patrolling Press Club, High Court, Mazar Gate, Doyel Chattar.

Abdul Baten, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Ramna Zone, told banglanews that police are on high alert like other days’ of verdict pronouncement. Additional police forces have been deployed on the day.

Thousands of lawmen were posted at other "sensitive" areas across the city including Mogbazar, Palton, Khilgaon, Mirpur, Jatrabari and Dhanmondi.

RAB’s legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan told banglanews that the force will be in high alert to thwart any sabotage centering the verdict.

Alongside the regular patrol, they will search suspected persons by setting up cheek posts at important points. Apart from this, plain dressed detective police remain alert at places.

Mohsin Reza, PRO of BGB headquarters, told banglanews that Border Guard Bangladesh members are on city streets as part of their ‘regular’ patrol not for Wednesday’s verdict.
