FBI team in Dhaka, meets DB

DHAKA: A four-member delegation of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), principal investigative agency of the United States, arrived in Dhaka on Thursday to help Bangladesh investigate the blogger-writer Avijit Roy murder.

After arrival in the morning, the team had a meeting with Monirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at noon. 

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A group of unidentified miscreants hacked the founding blogger of mukto-mona.com and writer Avijit to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna seriously injured at TSC intersection on DU premises Thursday night (February 26) while the couple coming out of ‘Amar Ekushey Book Fair’.

On the following day, The US has condemned the brutal murder of Avijit Roy and offered to assist in the investigations.

Later on March 1, Bangladesh government welcomed the US offer to help investigate the murder of Avijit Roy.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on March 2 arrested Farabi Shafiur Rahman, who had previously threatened Avijit multiple times.
