FROM JATIYA SANGSAD: State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday informed the parliament that a total of 1139 death-row convicts are kept waiting in different jails across the country.

Of the convicts, 20 are female prisoners, he added.

Replying to a query of AFM Bahauddin Nasim, he also told that the data was prepared with the information available till January 15 this year.

In response to another query, the state minister ruled out possibility of formulating any special force to prevent ongoing sabotages.

The proposal of constituting a specialized unit under organizational structure of Bangladesh Police to thwart terrorist and militant activities is under consideration, he added.

Besides, 50,000 more police will be recruited to contain different offences, he also informed the parliament.
