MUNSHIGANJ: The main work of the test piling of the Padma Bridge project has started on the Mawa side of the project in the district on Friday.
The job of the test piling of the 6.15km-long bridge has begun from this morning, said Dewan Abdul Quader, Executive Engineer (Main Bridge) of Padma Bridge Project.
Six days will be required for the test piling. The work of test piling for 10 pillars will be done gradually, he added.
More than 100 people, including officers, engineers and workers, are doing the piling work using modern machineries and equipments.
The pillars of the bridge would go the deepest of any bridge in the world. A total of 300 pillars, which are now being built in China, Singapore and Germany, will be installed in the bridge, said concerned officials.
The bridge will connect 19 south districts with Dhaka. The two-tier Padma Bridge with provision for vehicles running above and trains below would be built with concrete and steel.
