DHAKA: The Cabinet on Monday adopted a condolence motion at the death of Lee Kuan Yew, founder of modern Singapore and first Prime Minister of that country.
The condolence motion has been adopted at the weekly cabinet meeting, with Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to reporters.
According to the condolence motion, Lee Kuan Yew was a well-wisher of Bangladesh. For his foreign policy, strong bilateral relations have been built up between Bangladesh and Singapore.
At the death of Lee Kuan Yew, the world has lost a wise and farsighted leader.
Earlier on March 23, Singapore’s founder Lee Kuan Yew died at the age of 91.
He oversaw Singapore's independence from Britain and separation from Malaysia.
He was widely respected as the architect of Singapore's prosperity - the city-state's GNP per capita increased 15-fold between 1960 and 1980.
