PIROJPUR: The investigation team of the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday morning began investigation on two cases filed against detained Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee in Pirojpur.

The team has already started quizzing plaintiffs, witnesses and people concerned after visiting the spots mentioned in the cases statements.

Jamaat district Ameer Tofazzal Hossain Farid said, “The investigation should be impartial. Fair investigation can prove the cases false.”

The team reached Pirojpur on Tuesday night to probe into the allegations of war crimes against detained Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee.

On arrival of the investigation team, its leader ASP Helal Uddin told banglanews24.com.bd, “The team would take deposition of the plaintiffs of the cases, witnesses and other concerned and conduct investigation at Sayedee’s village in Zianagar upazila and other places.”

Two cases were filed with Sadar and Zianagar thanas in May and August last year against Delwar Hossain Sayedee for his involvement with “genocide, rape, looting and arson” at Pirojpur with a Pakistani army Captain named Ezaz during the war of Liberation in 1971.

Later, the cases were forwarded to the International Crime Tribunal.

In one case, the complainant said, “On May 8, 1972, Sayedee murdered freedom fighters Alamgir Poshari, Mahbub Poshari, Chan Mia Poshari, Jahangir Poshari and Kanchan and looted cash and gold. He also set fire to their houses.”

In another allegation, the complainant states: “Forces led by Sayedee on June 2, 1971 attacked the Hindu areas of Umedkhali village, looted cash and gold, set fire to houses and killed freedom fighters. They also handed over young girls to the Pakistani occupation forces,” the complainant added.
