KHULNA: An alleged criminal was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police in Fultala Upazila of the district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 25, son of Wahab Ali Sardar, of Ranagati village of Avoynagar Thana.

Officer-in-Charge of Rukonuzzaman of detective branch of Khulna district police confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police said Sohel was an accused of seven cases including three killing cases filed with Fultala and Avoynagar Thanas.

OC Rukonuzzaman claimed Sohel was arrested around 9:00pm Friday from Poygram Poshba area of Fultala upazila with a shutter gun.

Later, they conducted a drive in the nearby area along with Sohel to recover more firearms and ammunitions around 2:45am.

When the law-enforcers reached Jubmipasha Teli Pukurpar area, cohorts of Sohel opened fire at them, instigating to retaliate. Sohel was caught line in the fire during the gunfight.

Later, police rushed injured Sohel to Fultala Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead.

However, police recovered six bombs, a latest six shooter gun and 14 rounds bullets from the scene.

Besides, three policemen were also injured in the gunfight.
