NETRAKONA: A district court sentenced five people to lifetime rigorous imprisonment for throwing acid on a woman and her two minor daughters at Rambari village under Durgapur upazila of Netrakona district.
Acid Crime Prevention Tribunal-2 judge M Abdul Hamid on Monday passed the order.
The convicted persons are Bachchu Mia, 30, Manik Mia, 22, Rukku Mia, 26, Jamal Hossain, 60 and Buruj Ali, 35.
The tribunal also fined Tk one Lakh for them each as they were found guilty, said tribunal sources.
As per case statement, the five convicted persons had a dispute with Shiuli Akhter, wife of Emdadul Haque of Rambari village.
Later, in a local arbitration over the issue, Shiuli was asked to leave the village within six months.
However, rivals stormed into her house at night on May 19, 2007 and threw acid on Shiuli and her two minor daughters — Eti, 7, and Sathi, 9.
On May 26, Shiuli filed a case with Durgapur Thana and police submitted charge-sheet on July 12, 2007.
