DHAKA: Freedom fighters will get monthly Tk 10000 allowance from now on, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the announcement on Saturday morning.

She was addressing a program occasion of Armed Forces Day at Dhaka Cantonment.

The premier also urged the countrymen to stay united for fighting against all conspiracies against the country.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister paid rich tributes to the martyred members placing a floral wreath at Shikha Anirban (flame eternal).

After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memories of the martyrs, who made supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation.

A smartly turned out contingent drawn from Army, Navy and Air Force presented a guard of honor at that time while a bugle played the last post.
