Few cattle, many buyers

DHAKA: Only one day is left for Eid-ul-Adha, but the cattle markets in city have become empty on Thursday.

But the customers are looking for cows in every bazaar.

This was the scene of Rampura’s Aftabnagar cattle haat under government lease. A good number of people came to the market around 10:00am but returned with grim looks as cows in the market had been sold out on Wednesday.

The cattle traders have increased the price of their animal as the cow supply from other parts of the country to the city has decreased.

Sobahan Chowdhury came to the haat along with his child to buy a cow. But there were a few numbers of cows and their prices were very high.

A cow trader from Chuadanga, Iqbal Mandal, said he brought 15 cows a couple of days ago at the haat, now only two are left.

However, Muslim devotees have to buy some animals for sacrifice on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha as a ritual.
