DHAKA: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday held a ‘productive meeting’ with her India counterpart Narendra Modi.

The two leaders discussed bilateral ties, media reports said.

‘Yet another productive meeting with PM Sheikh Hasina. We discussed India-Bangladesh ties,’ Modi tweeted.

This was the third meeting between the two leaders in the recent months and came against the backdrop of settlement of the land boundary question.

‘After the business meeting, meeting with a neighbour and valued friend...,’ India PMO tweeted along with a photograph of the two leaders shaking hands.

‘Dhaka, New Delhi and now New York. PM @narendramodi meets with PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh for a bilateral session,’ tweeted India’s external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup.

The two leaders came with the observation at a delegation level unscheduled meeting between the two leaders at Hotel Waldrof Astoria.

Both of them, now in New York to attend the seventieth session of the UN General Assembly, are staying in the hotel.

After the meeting, Bangladesh PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said both the leaders discussed various issues of regional aspects and mutual interests including present status of the execution of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) and Teesta water sharing agreement in the meeting lasted for about half an hour.

The press secretary said Narendra Modi expressed his firm hope that the Teesta River water sharing agreement would be signed.

However, he didn’t mention any timeframe.
