DHAKA:  Police arrested five members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), including its regional commander, in a case filed for attempt to murder of a Baptist Christian mission priest.

Pabna police super (SP) Alamgir Kabir said this at a press conference around 12:00pm Monday.

The arrestees are Amzad Hossain, 30, son of Abul Kashem of Ullapara Thana of Sirajganj district; Rakibul Islam Rabbi, 22, son of Abdul Jalil; Ziaur Rahman, 35, son of Abdur Rahim Sheikh; Shariful Islam Tulip, 22, son of Mansur Ali and Abdul Alim, 36, son of late Nowsher Pramanik of Pabna sadar upazila.

At a press conference, the SP said JMB member Rakibul Islam Rabbi confessed that the attack had been carried out as per order of the organization to destabilize the country and push the government under pressure from international community.

A Christian priest Luke Sarker has survived an attempt on his life by three assailants who tried to slaughter him in his house in Iswardi of Pabna on October 5.
