GAIBANDHA: Police and the supporters of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton locked into sporadic clashes while taking the lawmaker to district court Thursday morning.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of district DB police Shamim Hossain Sardar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
He also said a few supporters of the parliamentarian attacked the police. “But police fired tear-gas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control,” he added.
Later, police escorted Liton to the court, Shamim Hossain Sardar added.
Earlier, a DB team picked up the lawmaker from a relative’s house at Uttara’s sector-5 area in city around 10:00pm on Wednesday in two cases filed for shooting an eight-year-old boy and vandalizing a house in Gaibandha.
Later, police took him to district DB office on Thursday morning.
