1 killed in army-criminals firing on Ruma border

BANDARBAN: At least one person was killed in firing between army and criminals in Ruma upazila of Bandarban district on Sunday noon as the army personnel were searching two missing tourists and their guide in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Menpong Mro, a VDP member.

Confirming the matter to banglanes Ruma Zone official Lieutenant Rafi said that the incident took place at Sepru Para of Ruma upazial on Bangladesh-India border.

Ruma local representative and an army source on condition of anonymity said that two army soldiers Kasehm and Hannan received bullet injuries and brought in Bandarban by helicopter.

Army sources said that more personnel have been sent to the spot and military drives will continue on the border areas to curb crimes.

Bandarban army region commander Brigadier General Naqib Ahmed Chowdhury told banglanews that they are conducting anti-crime drives in Bandarban frontier and will inform the media about the drives later.
