GAZIPUR: A court in Gazipur awarded death penalty to 11 people for killing Juba League leader Jalal Uddin in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur district.

Judge of additional district and session judge court Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan passed the verdict on Monday afternoon.

Deceased’s elder brother Milon Sarker told banglanews that the accused hacked Jalal to death in broad daylight at a playground in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur on August 17, 2004.

Of the 11 convicts, seven are Abdul Alim, Hossain, Ataur Rahman, Joynal Abedin, Belayet Hossain Beltu and Farhad Hossain.
