COX’S BAZAR: In the seventh phase, 48 more Bangladeshi trafficking victims, who were rescued from Myanmar maritime boundary, returned home on Wednesday.
The illegal migrants were brought back through Ghum Dhum frontier around 2:35pm.
Of the returned, 19 were from Cox’s Bazar while rest were from 12 other districts of the country.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Cox’s Bazar-17 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Imran Ullah Sarkar told banglanews that the Bangladeshis were brought back after holding a flag meeting.
Cox’s Bazar superintendent of police Shymal Kumar Nath told banglanews that the returnees will be quizzed for information after completion of immigration related processes.
Later, they will be sent to their homes with the assistance of International Organization for Migration (IOM).
IOM national program officer Asif Munir said the victims will be provided with all kinds of assistances, including food, shelter, medical treatment and communication.
Earlier in the day, a 21-member Bangladesh delegation went to Dekibania of Myanmar for a flag meeting.
However, a total of 777 Bangladeshis have returned home in seven phases.
