SYEDPUR, NILPHAMARI: A woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself after strangling her two daughters to death at Deshibari Rehabilitation Project in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Fency Begum, 30, wife of agro-laborer Ashraf Ali and their two daughters Aklima, 8, and Khadija, 4.

Locals said Ashraf went to crop field in the morning. Neighbors noticed dead bodies of two children lying on the bed and their mother Fency Begum hanging from ceiling of their house around 9:00am.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Nilphamari Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Jaldhaka Thana officer-in-Charge (OC) Dilwar Hasan Inam said it is primarily suspected that the incident might take place over quarrel of the couple.

But after getting autopsy report, fact will be revealed whether Fency committed suicide or victim of killing, he added.

However, Ashraf Ali was detained for interrogation, the OC also said.
