DHAKA: India recognized Bangladesh on December 6 in 1971. To commemorate that significant moment, Bangladesh deputy high commissioner has been appointed on Sunday for India’s northeastern province Tripura’s capital Agartala.

Bangladesh foreign minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali made this disclosure on the day at a discussion on Bangladesh-India relations held at Women Volunteer Associations (WVA) auditorium in city.

But, the minister did not announce the name the deputy high commissioner.

The FM further said that a deputy commissioner will also be appointed at Guwahati of Assam province of India.

‘Bangladeshis took shelter in India’s Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura provinces during Bangladesh war of independence in 1971. People of the India provinces assisted Bangladeshis with great compassion,’ he said.

Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, a forum for the trial of war criminals of 1971, organized the discussion chaired by its advisor Justice Syed Amirul Islam.

The organization’s acting secretary Professor Muntasir Mamun presented the keynote paper at the event, which was also attended by Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minority president Ajay Roy and Committee vice-president Sahid Shamoli Nasri Chowdhury, among others.
