PM opens Padma Bridge work

FROM PADMA BANK: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated piling work of main structure of the 6.15 km Padma Multipurpose Bridge, the biggest bridge in Bangladesh, on Saturday (December 12).

Through unveiling the plaque of the piling work, the construction of main structure of Padma Bridge has begun at Mawa point in Munshiganj district.

Later, PM Hasina is set to address a civic rally. People from nearby districts thronged the riverbanks to join the rally.
 
Earlier in the day, she inaugurated the river training work of the much-waited bridge at Zajira point of Shariatpur district.

The premier reached the sites in a helicopter around 11:15am and later inaugurated the river training work for the bridge.

After inaugurating river management program, she also addressed a rally there.

At the rally, PM Hasina said the World Bank withdrew itself from the project raising a baseless allegation of bribe-taking conspiracy.

She went on saying, “We asked them to provide specific information, but several years elapsed none provided anything in this regard”.

However, the premier expressed her gratitude to people who sacrificed their homestead for Padma bridge construction.

The whole area has been decorated with colorful festoons, flags. Multi-colored banners were seen around the embankment of Padma banks. There are portraits of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
