GAZIPUR: A man committed suicide after stabbing his wife to death at Shafipur in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur disitrict Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Raihan Mia, 37, son of Altaf Mia of Nababganj upazila and his wife Halima Begum, 31, daughter of Aminul Islam of Birrampur upazila of Dinajpur district.

Kaliakoir Thana Mouchak police outpost sub-inspector (SI) Saiful Alam told banglanews that Raihan Mia, a rickshaw puller, and Halima Begum, worker of a denim factory, lived in  Shafipur under Kaliakoir upazila.

They have three childen, he added.

Quoting locals,  the SI also said Raihan stabbed his wife over family dispute on Satuday night. Hearing her scream, neighbors rushed to spot. Noticing the presence of neigbours, Raihan stabbed himself, leaving him injured critically.

Locals rushed them to Shafipur General Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

Being informed, bodies of the deceased have been sent to Shahid Tajuddin Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, SI Saiful added.
