10 Bangladeshis on hunger strike at US jail

DHAKA: Ten Bangladeshis have been on a hunger strike at Krome Service Processing Center in Florida of US since December 2.

US immigration authorities Friday filed a petition in Miami federal court for an emergency court order to submit them to medical examinations.

According to a petition, all 10 detainees are men from Bangladesh.

They have been drinking only water since December 2 and on Friday refused to allow necessary medical tests.

According to court documents, the detention center's doctor says the men expressed discontent and dissatisfaction with the outcomes of their immigration cases.

The men, ranging in age from 19 to 43, have each lost up to 14 pounds.

According to the documents, all were arrested in Hidalgo of Texas, in 2014 and 2015 while attempting to enter the US.
