Journo Abdullah Faruk’s janaza held

DHAKA: The second namaz-e-janaza of former deputy-editor of Bangla daily ‘Kaler Kantho’ Abdullah al Faruk was held on Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) premises in city on Sunday afternoon.

People from different strata of life, including ministers, journalists and politicians joined the janaza held around 2:35pm.

Earlier at 2:00pm, his first namaz-e-janaza was held on National Press Club premises in city.

Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, daily ‘Samakal’ editor Golam Sarwar, PM’s information affairs adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, journalist leader Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, National Press Club president Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, among others, were present at the janaza.

According to the National Press Club press release singed by its general secretary Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, the journalist will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard.

Abdullah al Faruk, 50, was killed in a road accident in city’s Kakrail area early Sunday.

Family sources said Abdullah Faruk sustained injuries after being hit by a truck while crossing the road adjacent to Rajmoni Cinema Hall in Kakrail area around 1:00am.

Later, an auto-rickshaw driver, Anwar Hossian, rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition. Being informed, relatives shifted him to Square Hospitals in city where he succumbed to his injuries.

Quoting doctor, brother-in-law of the deceased Akhlak Rahman confirmed the death news of Abdullah Faruk to banglanews.

Senior journalist Faruk hailed from Santhia Upazila of Pabna district. He resided at Tajmahal Road of Mohammadpur in the capital city.

He was chief reporter of ‘Kaler Kantho’ two years ago. He also worked in Dainik Jugantor, Ajker Patrika.
