DHAKA: The High Court (HC) issued a rule upon the government asking why the prices of gas and power that were increased in August would not be reviewed through mass hearing.
A HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam on Monday issued the rule after hearing a writ petition, filed by Consumers Association Bangladesh (CAB).
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) chairman AR Khan, who was made defendant, was asked to answer the rule within three weeks.
Lawyer M Saiful Islam moved for CAB in the court.
Earlier, BERC chairman AR Khan announced 26.29 percent price hike of gas and 2.93 percent hike of power have been implemented since September.
