Journalist hacked dead in Rangpur

RANGPUR: Police recovered the body of a slain journalist from the adjacent area of Rice Research Institute at Dharmadaspur area under Sadar Upazila of the district Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Utsa Rahman, 35, senior staff reporter of a local Bangla daily ‘Juger Alo’ and hailed from Alamnagar Station Para of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Kotowali Police Station Abdul Quader Jilani said they recovered the body around 7:00am.

Reporter of ‘Juger Alo’ Rabiul Islam told banglanews that Utsa Rahman left the office after receiving a phone call around 9:30pm on Wednesday and did not return home.

OC Abdul Quader Jilani also said they kept the body at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
