India stages farce only

KURIGRAM: In the name of trial, India has staged a farce only, alleged Jahanara Begum, mother of unlucky girl Felani, who was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) on Kurigram border.

A court of Border Security Force (BSF) in India has acquitted BSF Jawan Amiyo Ghosh from much-talked-about Felani murder case.

In her immediate reaction Jahanara Begum said, “I demanded death sentence of the accused BSF Jawan, who killed my innocent daughter. But in the name of trial, they made a fun.”

Astonished father of Felani Nurul Islam Nuru said, “We went India for deposition and thought that we will get a fair trial. But I failed to understand the trial! In front of me, they killed my daughter like a bird!”

A special court of General Security Court at the headquarters of 181-BSF battalion of Coochbihar, India passed the sentence around 8.30pm Thursday.

Sources said that later, the verdict was sent to concerned authority for approval.

West Bengal correspondent of Indian Express Madhuparna Das over the phone confirmed the matter to Kurigram public prosecutor Abraham Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln who participated the hearing of Felani Murder case told banglanews, “This verdict has disgraced justice. This also has blot out the chance of reducing border killing.”

He also said: “This sentence shows utter disrespect to human rights and legitimizes self-proclaimed killing.”

Acting commander of Kurigram 45-BGB major Syed Abdullah Al Mahmud told banglanews, “We are trying to communicate BSF personnel for a confirm news but without so far without success.”

On August 13, a special court set by BSF started the trial of Felani murder case. DIG of Goahati frontier BSF CP Trivedi led the 5-member Judges panel.

Charge against Habilder Amiyo Ghosh was formed under Indian penal code sections 304 and BSF penal code 146. Highest punishment for the guilty under the penal codes is life time sentence or at least 7-year imprisonment.

Felani, a 15-year-old girl, was shot dead on Kurigram border by BSF personnel when she got entangled in barbed-wire fences on the frontier on January 7 in 2011.
