Technical education a must for a modern Bangladesh, Nahid says

DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Saturday emphasized the need for technical and vocational education for the youths for building a modern Bangladesh by 2021, as envisioned by the Grand Alliance government.  

“This is a top priority area for the government in the new education policy as well,” he said, on the eve of a nationwide campaign for the job-oriented education.   

The education minister was addressing a rally marking the ‘Technical and Vocational Education Week-2010’ at the central Shahid Minar.

Education Ministry organized the rally where Education Secretary Syed Ataur Rahman and top education officials of different departments and Technical Education Board were present.

Programmes of the weeklong campaign will take place across the country to raise awareness on technical education. Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the week formally Sunday at Bangabandhu International Convention Center.  

“We intend to create awareness on the importance of technical education and encourage young generation to opt for job-oriented education so that they can play role for the development of the country,” Nahid said.

He also called for giving due deference to technical and vocational education.

The Ministry of Education will sponsor seminar, symposium and other programmes during the week.
