DHAKA: Prime Minister's ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy said Dr. Yunus, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, swayed the then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to turn the World Bank against Bangladesh.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, also the PM Sheikh Hasina’s son, came up with the assertion while speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled "Experience of Padma Bridge: Truth and Falsehood in Politics" organized by the Suchinta Foundation at a hotel in the capital on Monday (October 23).
Joy said, “We have been informed from the World Bank's highest level that Dr. Yunus requested Hillary Clinton so that World Bank must stand against Bangladesh on Padma Bridge issue. That’s why World Bank pull out from the Padma Bridge project.”
“However, the Prime Minister didn’t yield to anyone. Even a member of the American embassy laughingly threatened me twice, saying your tax audit could happen. I, too, dismissed the threat laughingly,” Joy added.
Moreover, the ICT adviser stated that, “the benefit of being honest is not to fear anyone.”
Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman, professor Farashuddin, editor of the Daily Kaler Kantho Imdadul Haque Milon, chairperson of Sucinda Foundation Professor A Arafat spoke in the seminar.
