Tayyab urges postponement of 'March for Gaza' amid investor summit

Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Faiz Ahmed Tayyab urged organisers of the 'March for Gaza' rally to consider postponing the protest by a week, citing the ongoing Bangladesh Investment Summit.

He made the appeal in a Facebook post on Tuesday night (April 8).

He said that over 600 investors from around 50 countries have arrived in Bangladesh to attend the summit, which begins on Wednesday (9 April). The The programme includes site visits to various companies, export processing zones (EPZs), high-tech parks, and startups through 13 April.

Faiz Ahmed Tayyab also said the 'March for Gaza' rally is scheduled for Saturday (12 April) to protest Israeli military actions in Gaza.

"Palestine holds a very sensitive place in our hearts," Tayyab wrote. "We respect the noble purpose of this protest rally and believe millions may participate. However, the audience of our collective protest is primarily international politics—not the domestic economy of Bangladesh."

He called on organisers to consider the broader impact of the rally on the summit’s activities and suggested rescheduling it by a week. "The Palestine issue will not disappear in a week," he added.

Tayyab also said that the Chief Advisor has already condemned Israeli actions, adding that both protest and economic development are essential for the country.
