Two metropolitan magistrate courts of Dhaka have placed a total of 28 arrested persons on different terms of remand in connection with the arson attacks on ten buses in different parts of Dhaka yesterday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mandal and Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikary passed the remand orders on Friday.
On Thursday, unidentified miscreants set multiple passenger buses on fire at different spots in the capital within a span of one hour. However, no casualties were reported.
As of Friday evening, 13 cases have been lodged with nine police stations in city and 30 people have been arrested so far in connection with arson attacks.
Md Walid Hossain, deputy commissioner (DC) of media and public relations department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Friday.
According to sources of fire service and police, the arson attacks took place at Nayapaltan, Motijheel, Bangabandhu Avenue, Shahbagh, Kataban, Shahjahanpur, Press Club, Nayabazar, and Progati Sarani areas within a span of one hour yesterday afternoon.
Police suspect that the attacks were carried out in a coordinated manner to create panic amid ongoing voting at Dhaka-18 constituency yesterday.
