Bone marrow transplantation unit at DMCH

DHAKA: Country’s first ever Bone Marrow Transplantation unit (BMT) has been inaugurated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)-2.

Health Minister Prof Dr AFM Ruhal Haque inaugurated the foundation stone of the unit on Sunday morning.

While speaking at the inaugural function of the much awaited unit, the Health Minister said, “Government always gives utmost importance to health services as it is a basic right of the people.”

He said, “It will facilitate thousands of cancer patients who cannot afford the costly dealings abroad would be benefited from the highly sophisticated bone marrow transplantation unit of DMCH.”

Patients of blood cancer, thalassemia and some other marrow related diseases will get high-tech treatment in this modern BMT unit.

A total of five patients could be treated at a time in the unit`s five isolated cabins, where patients would have to spend at least three weeks after transplantation.
