Obaidul Quader, General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) today (Feb 10) said we wanted to compete with BNP as a political opponent from the beginning, but they have always considered us as enemies.

He was addressing a joint meeting with Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League leaders at the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday (Feb 10) morning.

Quader said: "Our party is preparing for the upcoming general elections. When we announce a programme, some media talks about BNP. On the other hand, BNP says its counter programme. We are not holding any counter program."

He said: "BNP since December has been coming openly to the field. They talk a lot. We only hold a peace rally due to fear of terrorism."

As long as BNP will protest, we will hold peace rally, General Secretary added.

Awami League presidium members Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Kamrul Islam and Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary Ahmad Hossain, SM Kamal Hossain, Mirza Azam, Adv. Afzal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, Information and Research Secretary Dr. Salim Mahmud, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, were present at the joint meeting.
